Turning webservers into smoking heaps of melted steel is a form of amusement for many slashdotters.

I seem to remember a comment recently on Slashdot (either to a story or poll about food) that one way of cooking your food was to wrap it up and put it on the processor, then post a interesting story about something on your server, submit it to Slashdot and the ensuing Slashdot effect would cook your food...

The first time it happened to me I didn't manage my own servers and it didn't handle the traffic well. The second time it was a bit better. But a few weeks age I moved to a much bigger dedicated server and did some tuning of mySQL and Apache. Now it holds up well. Although I did learn to make a few changes to the mySQL configuration from this last round.
