Unable to add new menu item in Main Menu
Posted this a while back on the mamboserver.com forums, but never got a working solution. Suggestions are welcome... --max
I just installed 4.5.1.0.4 as a local install and I'm having a couple of wierd problems that I haven't seen on previous installs.
When I try add a new item to the Main Menu in Menu Manager, it doesn't bring up the usual screen where I can specify what I'm adding. Rather, I get a "blank" screen with the Admin menu headers and /com_menus/new in the status bar, and a Cancel button.
Any thoughts?

I've gone back and copied over the entire Mambo folder in case there might have been missing files. I've also set rights on all folders and files to 777 to rule out any rights issues. Still having the same problems.
Any suggestions? I'm thinking I need to go and find a previous version of Mambo in case the problem is with the 1.0.4 distribution.

Ok, so there's definitely something screwy and it's probably in either PHP or Apache, but can't find it. I didn't muck about the settings for PHP after installing it, so should be mostly defaults in there. I've had it running on the same machine before but had to wipe the drive and I'm now getting back into setting it up.

As I'm just using it as a test box and just got started with it, I blew away the 1.0.4 install, installed 1.0.5 from scratch, dropped the mambo database and rebuilt it - still the same. No change with the WYSIWYG editor either. The editor works, I can create content items. The only function that doesn't work is adding an item to the main menu.

Nah, still the same. I don't think it's Mambo, I think it's a php setting or option somewhere...
If anyone has any suggestions on what to check, I'm open for suggestions...

Re: Unable to add new menu item in Main Menu
i dont know if you gave up with this yet... it was posted a while ago but i found this when searching for an answer to a different question
anyways i had the EXACT same problem... during setup mambo checked to make sure certain folders had chmod of 777 (writeable) but it only checked the origonal folder... if you didnt go through and change all of the files INSIDE that folder, although the CHMOD test would pass, the system wouldnt work properly
as soon as i chmodded all of the files in those folders (flashfxp has a recursive chmod option) it worked flawlessly

Re: Unable to add new menu item in Main Menu
Hi,
I had the same problem. All "lists" are empty.
It just was a browser problem. Changed from Mozilla to IE, then it worked.

Re: Unable to add new menu item in Main Menu
I run into the same (or similar) problem with both Mambo 4.5.2 and Joomla 1.0.3. I checked the error log of the web server (/var/log/httpd/error_log) and noticed this kind of entries:
[client x.x.x.x] PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 83 bytes) in /home/rantala/public_html/joomla/includes/domit/xml_domit_lite_parser.php on line 900, referer: http://www.haapakangas.net/joomla/ad...utype=mainmenu It is surprising that adding a menu item causes the script to use more than 8MB of memory, but increasing "memory_limit" in "php.ini" from 8MB to 16MB solved the problem for me.

Re: Unable to add new menu item in Main Menu
I had a similar problem. When trying to add a new menu item, Firefox promted me to save the file index2.php. I also had the memory warnings in the apache error log. When increasing the memory in php.ini to 16MB, everything worked fine!
Running Joomla 1.0.11.
